Hecate – Goddess of Magic, the Moon, and the Crossroads
Hecate – one of the most mysterious goddesses of the Greek pantheon, mistress of magic, witchcraft, and the night, guardian of the crossroads, of gates and the thresholds between worlds – is shown here in a pose of focused, almost priestly presence, surrounded by her inseparable attributes. In her right hand she lifts a burning torch, the very flame with which she lit the path of Persephone returning from Hades and guided lost souls through the darkness; in her left she holds a short ritual dagger, the instrument of sacrifice and magical practice. The goddess's skin is finished in a warm bronze-copper patina with a satin sheen, contrasted with the shimmering, almost magical green and turquoise of her flowing gown, whose tones recall moonlight filtering through nocturnal water. The gilded ornaments of the belt, the jewellery, the keys, and the intricate patterns of the bodice have been worked with the highest precision, while the vivid crimson of the serpent and the flame of the torch lend the composition a dramatic, ritual intensity. The piece rests on a rocky pedestal crowned with the gilded inscription "HECATE," reinforcing the sacral, collector's quality of the work.
